He owns three oil companies, with Bend Oil Company in Bend, Oregon being his most prominent. Robert John Nordby has devoted his entire working career to the fuel business. However, he has spent those same years enjoying a number of outdoor recreational activities.

Robert John Nordby was taught to enjoy the outdoors from an early age. Living in Oregon, there are plenty of ways Robert John Nordby can enjoy being outside. A few of his favorite recreational pastimes include hiking and kayaking. Both keep him physical and mentally fit. While he cannot make his employees go outdoors and play sports, he highly recommends it. In addition to hiking and kayaking, which are physically demanding activities, Robert John Nordby fishes and hunts. “I love to fish and am an avid bass fisherman. I also enjoy upland bird hunting,” says Robert John Nordby. He has been fishing and hunting for many years and as a father, has tried to pass the passion for each sport onto his two children.

“I just love being outdoors. After sitting indoors, in a chair, tied to meetings and phone calls it feels good to get away from it all. I believe everyone, whether you’re a top CEO or a cashier, benefits from stepping away from technology. I highly encourage people to go for a walk, a hike, a boat ride, or anything to experience the natural sun and fresh air,” says Robert John Nordby. He believes his time spent enjoying the outdoors helps him focus more when he is working indoors.
