Nicholas Exar, a renowned public health and environmental safety expert, has been delving into photography as a hobby for over 30 years. “It started with pictures of my family, either on vacation or being goofy,” says Nicholas Exar. Over the years, Nicholas Exar started noticing certain things he liked about certain pictures he had taken, leading to a desire to know more about professional photography.

“I’ve learned what I can informally over the years, but as I get older I seem to have a tighter grasp of my creative abilities in photography,” Nicholas Exar explains. What started as a hobby and a method of capturing special moments, has led Nicholas Exar to the present day creation of his own professional portfolio of his work. Nicholas has also always had a photography darkroom for developing, enlarging, and adjusting his photographs.

While not intending to create the portfolio to promote his abilities, he naturally got into it when he started grouping his favorite shots into categories. “Then I said, ‘Oh! I have a portfolio!’ and didn’t even realize I was doing it,” recalls Nicholas Exar.

Some would say that this is the best way to approach something artistic, to not treat it as work and just “go with the flow.” Nicholas Exar would agree, only when it comes to matters of hobby. A seasoned professional in his field, Nicholas Exar certainly did not approach public health and safety with such a lack of urgency.

Nicholas Exar is well on his way to improving his photography skills. His children can attest that the family albums are getting more stunning over the years.

Currently, Nicholas Exar is taking a break from his career and focusing on family and creative ventures. He is excited about his new portfolio and has even considered taking classes to hone his skills. Nicholas Exar is currently working on creating portfolios with different themes, as he has amassed so many shots over time.

Nicholas Exar is a man of many layers that approaches life and love with openness and knows how to connect with those he loves. His ability to communicate ideas and concepts transfers into his photographic work, as evidenced by his new portfolio.

“I won’t stop taking pictures until my eyes no longer work,” he says, “It’s too important to capture that fleeting moment of significance.”
