Thanks to the importance and prevalence of tablets, mobile and immersible computing, the digital media landscape is changing. The evolution is creating a demand for effective producers in interactive media design. Centennial College is meeting this demand with its Interactive Media Management program.
Interactive producers, digital project managers, digital strategists, user experience designers and digital content producers develop interactive media, produce content and manage digital media processes.
Designed for graduate students, this interactive media program requires applicants to have completed a college diploma or university degree in any discipline. Because all students have post-secondary experience, the delivery of the program is compressed into three quick-paced semesters that promote independent and collaborative learning. Interactive Media Management emphasizes strategy, user experience, and narrative and management skills with a focus on understanding industry, user experience, strategy, processes, job roles and documentation skills.
The first semester courses help students to establish a base in user experience planning through wire framing, content structure analysis, practical coding, A/V production for digital platforms, and management skills. With a solid foundation, the second semester teaches students advanced topics such as business, analytics, technology, and planning documentation while working on individual interactive projects. These projects require students to apply conceptual, technical, and production skills. The final semester interactive media course called Field Placement is a cumulative experience during which students spend 10 weeks in a professional setting.
