In today’s television and film industry, being creative is not enough to attain longevity as a producer. Professionals are also required to possess business savvy that is relevant to the industry. Open to those who possess a three-year advanced college diploma, or three or four year university degree in any discipline, this program prepares students for employment in the independent film and television production sector in the areas of business affairs, accounting, business development and production management/producing.

Students spend just two semesters in the intensive program. During this time they learn how important is it to have a global entrepreneurial outlook by exploring the legal, financial and regulatory frameworks of the industry. In turn, students develop skills that combine knowledge of the film and television industry with the principles and practices of accounting and business necessary for successfully producing in the current Canadian market.

Some specific topics covered by this Toronto film school include: developing plans for various business aspects of the film and television industry such as project financing, program sales and marketing, and business plans for the launch and operation of an independent production company.

A field placement in the final semester sets this program apart from other film school Toronto-based training. Students spend nine weeks (about two to three days a week) with a film or television production company or related organization in a position that relates to their career goals.
