It is in the Great Land of Equestria that the beloved characters of “My Little Pony” are said to dwell. It is a kingdom of myth and magic, and the ponies are creatures of great beauty, wisdom, and character. Little girls grew up loving them. Well, it is not just for little girls anymore. Meet the “Bronies”.

When the first My Little Pony toy was created over 30 years ago, no one could have expected how big they were destined to become. My now 25 year old daughter had them when she was a little girl and my 6 year old granddaughter has them now. They are just as popular now as they were 30 years ago. The My Little Pony phenomenon quickly grew from toys to a cartoon television show, movies, games, and more.

More amazingly, no one could have ever guessed that their following would include males between the ages of 13 and 35, now lovingly known as “Bronies” (a combination of “bro” and ”pony”). When the great toymaker Hasbro first put the figure on the market, they were designed to appeal to little girls. This was easily noted by their pink and blue colors and feminine features. But through some great animation for the television cartoons, and eventually the proliferation across the internet platform, the fan base grew to include people from all walks of life all around the globe.

The bronies grew in numbers mainly because of their attraction to the animation techniques, interesting story lines, and flash production (a great attraction for students studying animation). As the internet following grew among males so did the acceptance of them as a group. Now there are bronies from all parts of the world, and the movement is respected and honored.

A brony is considered to be the currency of the Great Land of Equestria. There is even a limited edition commemorative coin called the Original Brony Coin manufactured by the Royal Equestrian Mint. There is even a certificate of authenticity included with each coin. It is a very beautiful one bit shiny gold coin that will probably sell out pretty quickly.

So what are bronies known for? They are certainly well known for their creative talent be it music, animation, art or any form of fan fiction. All those who represent the community of bronies are so capable and gifted that the content they create actually rivals the content of the show itself. This is one reason why the ‘My Little Pony’ franchise has proved to be more than just a fad. What started out as a simple little pony toy has now become somewhat of a revolution. It has not lost its attraction after 30 years and is probably more popular today than it ever was. It continues to have a wide presence on television and the internet, and new fans are joining the movement every day. What is especially amazing is that guys all around the world can freely express their love and attraction to the cute little characters thought to be for little girls only. Well it is not just for little girls anymore.
