Double glazing firms are looking to encourage homeowners to improve their properties to take advantage of a recovering housing market.

Double glazing firms are looking to encourage homeowners to improve their properties to take advantage of a recovering housing market.

New figures released by the Bank of England have shown that 54,504 mortgages, worth a combined $8 billion were approved in the month of March, an increase from the 51,947 mortgages approved a month earlier. It is believed that Government efforts to increase lending could see that figure rise still further over coming months, particularly with the rise of new Government schemes such as Help to Buy, which aims to help people get onto the housing ladder with deposits as low as five percent next year.

With many new buyers entering the market, numerous firms in the double glazing and home improvement industries are hoping that homeowners will invest in improvements to their own property to drive up the price.

One such company is Anglian Windows, which has launched a wide ranging series of discounts to windows and home improvements under their Dream Home Improvement Sale.

The sale is offering 50% off energy efficient windows and doors, as well as discounts on further home improvements including 25% off conservatories, 15% of panoramic extensions and garage conversations, and 20% off new driveways and timberland flooring.

Sam Wright, site editor for the Double Glazing Forum, said “At this time of year most glazing companies see an upturn in business anyway, as people are more likely to make these improvements as the weather gets warmer. However the improving housing market makes this the ideal time to improve the value of your home. It’s a trend that double-glazing companies like Anglian Windows will be keen to encourage.”

The Bank of England’s figures are in line with the British Banker’s Association, which has also predicted that an influx of first-time buyers will help improve conditions in the housing market.
