Paris being a hub city, one can easily take the train to visit any corner of France. Let's focus on how to take the train to Boulogne sur Mer, a Northern French coastal town. The journey starts at Paris Gare du Nord, one of the most important railway stations in Europe. No need to panic though! The railway station is carefully planned, with information signpost, information desks and bilingual railway officials. Plus travellers can have more information in their Train Travel Book which is freely offered by Rail Europe.

Two types of journeys can be made. A journey with connections which is slightly longer, but which will allow travellers to discover more of the French towns and landscapes, or a direct trip to arrive to destination quicker. You can check the travel details on Rail Europe website.

The journey with connections: The first part of the journey, will consist of taking the TGV, a high speed train, to reach the town of Lille. There is a connection at the Lille Flandres railway station, which by the way is the same railway station where travellers will be arriving by the TGV. The connection means that travellers need to take a regional train, the TER to Calais Ville and another TER to finally reach Boulogne sur Mer.

The direct trip: It consists of taking the Intercités train from Paris Gare du Nord to reach Boulogne Ville railway station. Intercités trains, or Intercity, have a children pay area as well as snacks and beverages onboard.

The Boulogne ville railway station is about 1km from the city centre of Boulogne. Visitors can find hotels right in the heart of the town. Many hotels are reasonably priced. Tourists can find information about the town, activities, restaurants etc. at the Tourist Office located at Parvis de Nausicaa.

Speaking of which, Nausicaa is one of the town major attractions. It is an amazing aquarium found on the seafront of Boulogne sur Mer. The ramparts of the upper town is a beauty and a walk around the city walls will offer to any visitor a perfect view of the harbour. The main sight of Boulogne sur Mer is its Basilique Notre Dame.

Travellers can book their train ticket from the Rail Europe website.
