With all the money that PSG has spent in recent times, they cannot seem to perform on the biggest stage. Against Napoli, they were second best for most of the game and had to chase the game towards the end and get a draw thanks to a worldie from Angel Di Maria. Bear in mind that they were at home. They are currently third on the table as things stand. PSG in the Europa League? Now that will be something.

There is no other way to say it. Manchester United may still be one of the most valuable clubs on the planet but on the field, they are way behind. Against Juventus, they were devoid of any structure and creativity. Juventus was not great on the night, but they did not have to because they nullified the threats from Pogba and co. quite easily. To understand the levity of the performance, Manchester United was hosting the game. At Old Trafford. Turin awaits.

Real Madrid won 2-1 on the night (could have easily been 6-5) but there is not a lot that can be said about the performance. They were very open at the back and if not for some terrible finishing by the Viktoria Plzen forwards, Real Madrid could have easily lost the game. The jury is still out for Lopetegui. Next up: Barcelona.
To say that Barcelona is all about Messi would be a bit harsh to the rest of the team, but on Wednesday night, Barcelona were relatively untroubled and coasted to a 2-0 victory against a resurgent and stubborn Inter Milan side. The first goal was scored by Messi’s replacement in Rafinha. It was a good team performance by Barcelona as there was less dependence on individuals.

In a very tough group, playing against the weakest opponents (sorry PSV), Tottenham took the lead and then their captain, who happens to be their goalkeeper got sent off and it all went downhill from there. They were lucky to have kept a draw. Things become increasingly difficult for them from here on. Quite difficult.

To say that this score-line was expected would have been a lie, especially considering the fact that Atletico Madrid rarely let in lots of goals. Lucien Favre and his young team made light work of Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid in a manner that had probably never been seen before. The defending was shocking, leaving lots of spaces in behind after going a goal down and Dortmund duly took full advantage. The passing from the back for the fourth goal was utterly atrocious (I am looking at you Felipe Luis). Simeone could chalk this up to a very bad day at the office but Lucien Favre would be delighted at the result. The second leg should be something.
