Earworm Syndrome Affects 98 Percent Of Population

That is to say that they hear these tunes almost daily. Can you imagine waking up to that or some other song every single day of your life? It is heartbreaking to think about it.

Have you ever had one of those days where you could not get a particular song out of your head? All day long, over and over you catch yourself humming, singing, or hearing it play somewhere in the background. If you have this experience, try not to worry about it too much because you are not alone. According to Professor James J. Kellaris of the University of Cincinnati, you are in the majority, not the minority. In fact, if you have never experienced this type of weird déjà vu, then it would be time to worry. A full 98% of the total population has had this phenomenon happen to them at least once in their lifetime and many people experience it quite often.

Earworm Syndrome It is called, appropriately enough, earworm syndrome. It occurs and actually irritates women and musicians most of all. The rest of us just go with it. The reason it bothers some people is because of the actual song. While most creative people are bothered with their own music or tunes that they know or think about often, the two most reported songs are the Chili's Baby Back Ribs tune, and "Who Let the Dogs Out." I want my baby back, baby back, baby back, baby back, baby back... Ribs has got to be maddening if it is playing over and over in someone's head. In fact, I would venture to say that people who hear this over and over would shy as far away from Chili's Baby Back Ribs as they possibly could. We Are the World Almost 600 people were surveyed to represent the entire planet, which is not a very large study group but it is large enough to make a few calculations. Over 61% of those who do suffer from this “Syndrome” suffer frequently.

That is to say that they hear these tunes almost daily. Can you imagine waking up to that or some other song every single day of your life? It is heartbreaking to think about it. Please Change the Station Earworm syndrome is different from other syndromes, like the unnamed syndrome in which people can hear music or voices in the background but cannot make out what is being said or can hear specific songs as if listening to a radio all the time. It is also a far cry from schizophrenia, which causes people to hear voices not inside their head, but from a distance of 10 to 30 feet away. If you had to be stuck with any of these, I would choose the radio option because you never know what song will be next. Stop Whining The worst audio phantoms are the high pitched noises that come from nowhere and everywhere at the same time. Those can be really annoying and are usually caused by damage to the eardrum or other problems with the semicircular canal located inside each ear. Compared to these other audio problems, earworms seem like a picnic. There is no known cure for any of these although some of the worst of them are manageable. Timber... or is it FOUR The Journal of Medicine has articles in it from time to time covering the subject. The latest conclusions suggest that the part of the brain that controls the audio memory is damaged, causing us to hear phantom sounds that do not exist. The question is, if a tree falls in the forest and the only one around to hear it is a person suffering from an earworm, would it make any sound or would it make a sound over and over later when no one is around to hear it again?
