Sesa Goa Iron Ore, a Vedanta Group Company, has successfully conducted a safety mock drill at Codli Mine, which is in line with its commitment to on-site mine safety and risk mitigation. Prime Minister Office’s task force supervised the event that was attended by numerous industry experts, government officials and representative of the various regulatory bodies.

Addressing media persons, Mr. S. K Dutta, Deputy Director General Mine Safety (South Central Zone), subsequent to the event stated, “The safety mock drill conducted at Codli Mine is a shot in the arm for Vedanta - Sesa Goa Iron Ore. The mine management and state administration deserve credit for the great show they put up. The response and preparedness to handle the safety challenges were good enough to instil a sense of relief in everyone concerned – be it miners, mine administration and local community or concerned government agencies. Reiterating our commitment to steer clear of any untoward accident in the future, we intend to rectify the loopholes observed at the earnest.”

Lasting for a little over than 20 minutes, the mock drill encompassed key areas of risk management, including communication regarding the mishap and victim rescue and evacuation. Eventually, the mine was declared operational wherein the essential safety protocol was complied with. The state emergency services also demonstrated efficiency in terms of response time and preparedness levels, which was yet another highlight of the event.

The well attended mock drill at Codli Mine, which is the biggest mine owned and operated by Vedanta in Goa, was graced by Mr. B. L. Meena - Director of Mines Safety, (Goa region) and Mr. Kishore Kumar - Dy. Director of Mines Safety (Goa region), along with Vedanta - Sesa Goa Iron Ore staff. Plans to conduct similar emergency preparedness mock drills in other Sesa Goa Iron Ore mines in Goa are in the pipeline.
