Rembert, South Carolina - November 22, 2012 - Modern Turf, Inc., the preeminent, South Carolina-based turfgrass production company, announced installation of its Miniverde Ultradwarf Bermudagrass turf for the newly restored putting greens at the Camden Country Club in Camden, South Carolina.

The course at Camden Country Club was designed in 1939 by the legendary Donald Ross, perhaps best known as the architect of the venerable Pinehurst No. 2. Camden features some of the most challenging holes on any course in the state. It is the only 18-hole Donald Ross designed course in South Carolina.

Hank Kerfoot, President of Modern Turf, Inc., said, “Camden is one of those amazing golf courses where you can truly see the architect’s vision. As with many of the venerable, older courses, however, the greens were in need of updating. We saw that some of the preexisting Tifteagle greens were losing a battle to fungi, and some of the other greens had suffered from soil erosion. It quickly became obvious to us that MiniVerde Ultradwarf Bermudagrass was going to be the way to go.”

The MiniVerde Ultradwarf Bermudagrass produces deep roots and is characterized by fine leaf blades, short internodes and high shoot density. MiniVerde has been the top-rated Bermudagrass in the National Turfgrass Evaluation Program (NTEP) trials for the past several years.

“This was a big project that included, in addition to replacing the greens, tree removal, the creation of new bunkers and contouring. Ultimately, the course should prove more user friendly to a variety players, but it is also true that the new greens are tighter and less forgiving than those in the past. These greens should be a terrific test of a player’s short-game skills.”
