Merl Roy Cappoen and his first wife visited Europe for 9 months in 1971, taking tours and hitch-hiking around to really get to know the people and see the countries they visited. Later in 1985, Merl Roy Cappoen saved up his money and spent several months traveling around Australia and New Zealand. Merl Roy Cappoen would love to visit Europe, New Zealand, and Australia again. Merl Roy Cappoen would also like to see more of the US in-depth, and reach Asia and Africa if possible.

During his lifetime, Merl Roy Cappoen has traveled to a wide variety of locations around the United States. Merl Roy Cappoen claims that the cultural diversity that the United States holds is truly surprising. “Really I didn't expect the different areas of the nation to have such distinct cultural differences,” Merl Roy Cappoen said. “However, I have greatly enjoyed my time on each of my trips and feel that being exposed to the different types of society around the United States has helped enrich my personal character.”

Although Merl Roy Cappoen refused to name a particular culture or area that was his favorite, Merl Roy Cappoen held the midwest in particularly high regard. Merl Roy Cappoen says that the culture found in the flyover states held an impressive set of family values and a desire to be a community, something that he greatly appreciated.

Recently, Merl Roy Cappoen has begun to consider where to travel on future jaunts. Having traveled to many areas in the United States, Merl Roy Cappoen has turned his eyes abroad. Merl Roy Cappoen hopes to begin exploring the cultural and societal variety of South America in the near future. “I think the logical next step is to start moving south in my travels,” he said. “There is a lot of incredible history contained in the ruins around South America, and I am truly thrilled about the possibility of learning more about their culture in modern times.”

Regardless of his destination, it is a safe bet to say that Merl Roy Cappoen will quickly fit in with the local culture, assimilating himself to see a true picture of the local society.
