LTG Patrick O’Reilly was invited as one of a series of speakers as part of a “deterrence” program hosted by Harvard University. The series of influential military leaders were invited by Harvard to gain different perspectives on some of the most pressing issues that face the US and our Allies. LTG Patrick O’Reilly offered his insights on missile defense and the development of military defense systems. “It was an honor to speak at Harvard University. I enjoyed a respectful, intellectual discussion about complex defense issues with the faculty and fellows at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government,” said LTG Patrick O’Reilly.

LTG Patrick O’Reilly shared his insight into research and systems development to student audiences at Prairie View A&M, Iowa State, Howard University, Purdue, University of Alabama, Nebraska, Tuskegee, Auburn, North Carolina State, North Carolina A&M and Alabama A&M. He enjoys these presentations as it is an opportunity to not only to describe his work, but it was also an avenue to make it understandable to those who are not familiar with the military. An attendee at one of his presentations noted that, “LTG Patrick O’Reilly was an enjoyable speaker to hear. He made missile defense systems and the concept of deterrence tangible to me. I looked back on my notes and was surprised at how much more I took away from his presentation.”

LTG Patrick O’Reilly is quite a visual person so he is always armed with many charts to supplement his presentations. University audiences were pleased to have this information to take away with them. “It gave the much needed clarity to fully understand what LTG Patrick O’Reilly was talking about. I am majoring in Engineering and want to join the military as well. I am fascinated by what LTG Patrick O’Reilly does and understand a great deal of it. The charts he provided really gave me the entire picture,” stated a student participant. LTG Patrick O’Reilly was clear that the most enjoyable aspect of his university visits were his discussions with the faculty and the questions and answer sessions at the conclusion of each of his presentations.
