Maya Bloom of Hopkinton, NH Betters Community through Girl Scout Project

Maya Bloom of Hopkinton, NH has been a dedicated member of her community. She has spent hundreds of hours performing a variety of community service works in addition to creating several community service projects.

 
Maya Bloom of Hopkinton, NH has been a member of many prestigious organizations and earned a number of awards for her works and abilities. Since age 12, she has been a member of MENSA which is a society for individuals with IQs in the top 2% of society. Her advanced intellect only fueled her drive to aid society, and in her 12th year of school Maya Bloom of Hopkinton, NH was awarded the Girl Scout Gold Award.

Maya Bloom of Hopkinton, NH’s Girl Scout Gold Award followed the creation of her project to get students outdoors. In addition to getting students outside, her second goal was to separate students from their addiction and dependence on electronics. Maya Bloom of Hopkinton, NH’s project was designed in two phases: “To build an outdoor classroom at our local elementary school, and to create and then present to all elementary school students a brochure that guides students into outdoor activities at all ages,” says Maya Bloom of Hopkinton, NH.

From the time Maya Bloom of Hopkinton, NH conceptualized the project until the project’s completion, she had dedicated more than 330 hours to the project. The finished project was an outdoor classroom with six hexagonal picnic tables and a brochure of, “85 activities to do in the outdoors, along with local resource listing for outdoor activities,” says Maya Bloom of Hopkinton, NH.

The project was a success and earned Maya Bloom of Hopkinton, NH more than the Girl Scout’s Gold Award; she was also awarded the Prudential Spirit of the Community Award. Government leaders took notice of Maya Bloom of Hopkinton, NH’s work and she received commendations from Governor Maggie Hassan, New Hampshire Representative Mel Myler, and New Hampshire Senator Sylvia Larsen.

Maya Bloom of Hopkinton, NH continues to dedicate her efforts to build a better and stronger community. She is a thirteen-year member of the Girl Scouts and has created and developed other community projects including: training for Color Guard at both the Squadron and Wing level for Civil Air Patrol, helping to create a virtual hike in the White Mountains for the elderly and disabled, collecting materials and assembling over 200 backpacks for Hurricane Katrina victims, and working with Outward Bound for 3 weeks restoring buildings and building campsites on remote islands off the coast of Maine. Now in college, Maya has continued her service work by volunteering at Red Cross blood drives and leading a weekend seminar for Girl Scouts interested in science and math. Years and hours of community work and service led to Maya Bloom of Hopkinton, NH’s selection for the National Youth Leadership Forum on National Security spring of 2013.
