Competitive sports have been a part of Doreen Duggan's life for years. Beginning as a softball player as a youth and continuing until her graduation from college, Doreen Duggan has always relied on competitive sports as a way to test herself and as a major part of her personal identity. Winning in any sport has always brought happiness to Doreen Duggan. Recently, Doreen Duggan joined up with an Episcopal Priest to engage in a mixed doubles tennis tournament hosted by the Mantoloking Yacht Club. The tournament was a grueling test of endurance for the 56-year old Doreen Duggan, and by the end of it, Doreen Duggan was pushed to her limits.

Doreen Duggan and her clergyman partner are proud to announce that they are the champions of the mixed doubles competition at the tournament. When asked about their victory, Doreen Duggan was emphatic about the difficulty of the accomplishment: “First and foremost, it was extremely hot out on the court. The weather was easily above 90 degrees off the court, and the hot asphalt surface adds another ten degrees. Playing in that type of conditions is difficult, which makes our accomplishment that much more special.”

Doreen Duggan is proud to have continued her athletic success, and takes this as a sign that she will be competitive for many years to come. Although Doreen Duggan has won games and even championships in other events, she considers this the highlight of her tennis playing days. When asked why, the reasons were simple: “First off, it is always a great experience to win in a hard fought match like the final round today. Moreover, we won in a tournament surrounded by friends and fellow members of the Mantoloking Yacht Club. I'm sure that today's match will be a memory we will all cherish for a long time.”

Doreen Duggan's history in competitive sports has served her well, as it helped Doreen Duggan push through the difficult moments and extreme heat of the tournament to come out victorious. Doreen Duggan hopes to continue her career on the court, and plans to continue training for the next available tournament.
