David Pedro Bica is an osteopathic physician who has a focus in family medicine and sports medicine. David Pedro Bica graduated with a degree as a Doctor of Osteopathy from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2008. Upon graduation David Pedro Bica completed his postgraduate training and fellowship in Greenville, North Carolina at East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine. David Pedro Bica completed his family medicine residency from July 2008 to June 2011, and then completed his sports medicine residency from July 2011 to June 2012.

Following his residency completion, David Pedro Bica became Board Certified in Family Medicine and obtained a Certificate of Additional Qualification in Sports Medicine. David Pedro Bica believes that becoming board certified is crucial in becoming a well-respected physician. David Pedro Bica stated, “I always knew I would become board certified upon completing my MD. Receiving board certification helps distinguish superior physicians from those that are substandard. I believe it is important to obtain certifications that possess the most prestige so patients can trust that I am knowledgeable and experienced in my field.”

David Pedro Bica believes that the general public is not appropriately informed of the importance of board certifications. David Pedro Bica hopes to emphasize their relevance, so more individuals can make a well-informed and educated choice while looking for a physician. David Pedro Bica explained, “It is crucial while looking for a new physician to discover what boards they have received certification from. Not all boards are created equal, and some are more prestigious than others. The prestige is developed since certain boards possess higher standards and qualifications to pass.”

So how does David Pedro Bica suggest researching a physician? “People should research the specific physician they are considering online. Often, their board certifications will be listed on professional websites or on their personal business page. Once they have established what certifications the physician possesses, people should utilize the Internet to research what boards are the most reputable in that field. Like I said, not all boards are equal and it is important to be aware of which ones are distinguished,” David Pedro Bica noted.
