Did you know that Chambers and Partners, the internationally recognized legal guide that ranks the world's best lawyers and law firms, also ranks Legal Process Outsourcing firms?

Following the same methodology that it uses to rank lawyers and law firms, the Chambers research team interviews LPOs and their clients to identify the best of the best. The 2013 results are in and Integreon, was recognized by Chambers and Partners for the third consecutive year as a top ranked LPO provider in their Chambers Global guide. Other top-ranked LPOs were Pangea3, LLCQuisLex, and UnitedLex. Second tier LPOs were American Discovery, Clutch Group, CPA Global Limited, Legalbase, Mindcrest, and SDD Global Solutions PVT LTD. The assessment is the result of independent research conducted by the publication’s editorial staff, including interviews conducted in more than 20 languages with law firms and corporations from around the world about their specific experiences in working with LPO providers....

The New York Times calls Chambers "the gold standard" in legal rankings, and lawyers and their firms across the globe view a Chambers ranking as the ultimate honor. Chambers notes that it conducts intensive, continuous research to identify the world’s leading legal services firms – assessing the firm's legal abilities, professional conduct, client service, commercial astuteness, diligence, commitment and other qualities most valued by clients.

So, what does this say about the state of the LPO market?

According to a Chambers editorial authored by folks at highly ranked QuisLex, Inc., the LPO market is moving away from conventional outsourcing to legal process management companies. Services once centered on commoditized tasks performed in low-cost jurisdictions, have evolved into high-value services across core areas such as document review, related aspects of litigation support and contracts management and analysis. LPOs have also invested heavily in significant process and technological advancements that allow LPOs to provide valuable insights based on hard data analytics. As a result, LPO clients can “make better, more informed decisions that impact both legal and business strategy.”

Echoing this point, Daniel Reed, Chief Executive Officer at UnitedLex, stated in a company press release, “Being ranked by Chambers as a Tier One LPO is an acknowledgement of our vision on where the legal industry is heading and our proven ability to meet the demands of corporate legal departments and law firms looking to realize the efficiency and effectiveness of LPO’s.”

Based on comments from client referees, the work of LPOs, both large and small, is appreciated and valued. All indications are that the LPO industry will continue to thrive in the next year, as clients continue to develop long-term relationships with their providers. The future trend is to further integrate LPOs into the legal mix, making providers a valuable extension of legal departments and changing the way the world thinks about legal service delivery. No wonder Chambers ranks the LPO industry alongside leading law firms.
