Fossil Fuels — Our Energy Sources

Posted March 7, 2022 by winsonoil

The whole of humanity and environment use fossil fuels for the purpose of energy. Here’s a look at what fossil fuels are and why they matter.

Humans consume abundant quantities of fossil fuels and the world would not be the same without it. Your chandeliers will cease to brighten up with light. Your car will end up stuck in the garage unable to move and your home will be boiling hot to live in. However, if we were to tap back into the beginning of fossil fuels, how much do we know of what goes into its making? Do they mean decayed skeletons and bones of ancient dinosaurs? Does it really start here?

So, What Really Are Fossil Fuels?

According to energy based companies like Winson Oil, the creation of fossil fuels involve fossilized compound mixtures found in the hardened dregs of prehistoric plants and animals that lived and died within a long period of time — we mean millions of years ago. Supposedly, the chemical deposits and content found in the sediment of these organic remains is so rich in carbon due to it being entombed deep underground. The oxygen-deprived preservation of this composed matter undergoes intense thermal breakdown and builds into solid minerals which are then used for the production of coal, crude oil, and natural gas. These are all examples of fossil fuels which provide 80% of our energy needs we consume at the drop of a hat.

Natural Gas

Methane plays a giant role in natural gases. Depending on the location, it generally falls into two categories: conventional and unconventional. Those found in porous sedimentary rock beds or mixed into oil reservoirs are conventional natural gases. They may be accessed through standard drilling processes. Unconventional natural gases, on the other hand, are extracted from coalbed methane, shale gas and gas sandstone with certain stimulation techniques because they are impossible to pull out using regular extraction methods.

Crude Oil

The liquefaction of hydrocarbons (hydrogen and carbon compounds) makes up crude oil. Extracting it from the Earth involves a long procedure and varies according to geology and location. Once after the oil is recovered, it is sent to industrial refineries to generate refined products like gasoline and petroleum. In 2015, the United States was reported to be top in the game receiving nearly as much as 36% of its energy through petroleum.

Coal

Known as the most carbon-intensive fossil fuel, coal is derived from dead plants and vegetal organisms that were once receiving its energy from the sun. The weight of coal is largely dominated (50%) by the hardening of plants. It is a strong, carbon-heavy rock that comes in four main varieties: anthracite, bituminous, subbituminous, and lignite
