During the first few years of a child’s life, they are unable to synthesize their own antibodies, and this means that they are very susceptible to infections which could then kill them. However, the fact that such antibodies can be passed from the mother to the child through breastfeeding means that you will be in a better position to offer them greater protection if you are healthy yourself. This means that if your child has to have a healthy childhood, you also have to make sure that you keep your BMI in the desired range so that you do not end up not producing any nutritious milk for them.
As you can see, the relationship between BMI and brestfeeding is something that most mothers need to be aware of. The problem with this kind of setup is that in many cases, mothers tend to try to lose weight after they have given birth, since this process often adds on a lot of weight. However, if you are not careful when you do this, you could end up making your BMI dangerously low, and this means that your breastfeeding will not be as effective as it should be. At the end of the day, mothers have to make sure that they consult a doctor before they take any drastic measures to lose weight, especially if they are doing so during the first few weeks after childbirth.
