The society cares about how things look, whether it’s for advertisements, websites, logos, banners, or videos. This is why graphic design is a coveted skill. You don't need to be a pro-designer to create shareable content. However, enrolling in good communication design courses can add to the success of your career in the design industry. A good course can help teach you the basic and advanced skills you will require, not just in terms of the tools you will use, but also help you develop an eye for design. In the meantime, here are a few basic design principles to keep in mind when working with graphics.

1. Alignment

This is by far one of the most important fundamentals of design. It helps create a sharp, ordered appearance that is pleasing to the eye and will connect with the audience. Using proper alignment cleans up a design and eliminates any sloppiness that occurs when you place design components haphazardly.

2. Hierarchy

Giving significance to the important message among multiple elements is called hierarchy. You can achieve a desirable hierarchy in an array of ways - larger or bolder fonts, placing a message physically higher than other information, or using shapes to create a focal point.

3. Contrast

This is yet another important principle of design because it lets designers extract crucial elements and accentuate it. The best way to add contrast is to place two opposing elements together like black and white, thick and thin, modern and traditional, bold fonts and cursive fonts, etc. Utilizing contrast will guide the viewer's eyes to the important message of the design.

4. Color

It is common knowledge that color is an important aspect of design. Therefore, choosing the colors that will be used in a design should be done carefully every time. According to the color theory, every color sparks a different mood in the viewer. For instance, green makes people think of the environment, red conjures emotions like anger, blue is more calming and yellow sparks joy.

Developing an eye for design requires time and an understanding of the above principles. Look at what makes you engage with a design piece, what elements draw your eyes and what turns you away. Analyzing good design pieces will put you on the path to being a successful designer. Along with self-study, you should also consider registering in one of the many communication design courses in India, these courses will help you gain an in-depth knowledge of various design fundamentals and other important theories.
