There are many pros and cons to installation CCTVs. With the continued advancement of today’s technology, it is sad to say there might be an increase of cons associated with these systems. The pros of installing CCTVs are remarkable. They stop many criminals from committing crimes. They deter many people from doing wrongs overall. A criminal will think twice about robbing a store or house if they know there is such a system is installed. Even if the system is not active, just seeing the camera will deter some of these criminals. Sorry to say they don’t deter all criminals but not even the police officers themselves are not able to deter certain criminals.

The misconduct of some everyday folks is also affected by the installation of these system and again the system doesn’t necessarily need to be active, just visible. People are aware that video footage can be a very effective piece of evidence to convict them of a crime or misconduct. Knowing that there are cameras around the house will deter domestic abuse. These systems installed in vehicles will also deter road rage and in some cases police brutality. The footages have won many cases and ensured that wrong doers were prosecuted and convicted.

There must be balance in life, a yin and a yang, a right and a wrong. For every action there is an equal but opposite reaction. With every good there is a bad and with CCTV the pros walk hand in hand with the cons. The cons of CCTV vary with type and designs. The older model of these cameras produces very bad quality footage. There have been cases where criminals escape justice because the footage was so bad it could not be used as evidence. Most of these cameras do not capture audio and sometimes there is no evidence to a crime without the audio.

A major con to the systems are the operators. The installer and operators of these camera system are sometimes criminals themselves. This leave you with a major problem. Your home and business are left at the mercy of criminals. There are also immoral people that operate these systems as well and, in some sense, this might be worse than someone looking to rob your house. Losing material things hurt but finding out that the person you pay to help protect your family has been violating their privacy especially that of your children. You will not be able to know who these people are initially, and it might be too late when you do find out. The damage may have already been done.

Although there are cons to CCTVs the good outweighs the bad. There are systems available that can be installed in you home or business that can only be monitored by you and your family. The newer versions of these camera now boast a technology that allows you to monitor you home or business remotely. This ensures you are in total control of the privacy of your home and business even when you are on vacation in another city or even in another country.
