The well known Argentina lawmakers took a major step on Friday to have a right to legal abortion. Also, fulfilling a promise of President Albert Fernandez, who has made women's rights a central tent in his government. After having 20 hours, debate and getting approval of a bill in Argentina’s lower house by congress 131-117 votes it was a victory for Mr. Fernandez. He has dedicated the funding and, political capital to improving conditions for women, gay and transgender people even after Argentina is having the biggest financial crisis in a generation. This bill has to be still needed to pass through the senate to officially legalize abortion in the country.
“It is a false dilemma to say its one thing or the other”, said Argentina’s minister of women, gender, and diversity. Argentine would become only the fourth nation and, by the time it will be the most populous to make abortion legal in Latin America that strict the right of abortion laws as the norm and catholic teaching has long steered policy. There are thousands of activities going on both sides of the issue, which are surrounded by congress from Thursday night to Friday morning by following the debate on giant screens.
Deciding and approving the laws are divided into clearly designated areas depending on the superior positions. On the one side of a decision, abortion rights activists have turned their area into an open-air party, where dancing through was much hot than the summer night.
One member of divided groups, who had stayed through the night says that “I feel like we are making history” and the other notably smaller group opposed to legalization held open-air prayers all night. Most recognized the bill was liable to pass as the morning light crept across the sky.
The President, a center-left law school professor, has campaigned as a champion of marginalized communities. He positioned gender and sexual orientation disparity alongside social, economic, and racial inequality and promised to tackle them. Few measures are likely to have more toward the regional impact as if Argentina is making abortion legal.
