Yemane Abraham advocates alternative transportation

Yemane Abraham is committed to doing whatever he can to help the environment. He seldom drives a car, and when he has to carry some heavy object with him to work then he takes public transportation. Other than that, he will either walk to his job in the food service industry, or more often he will ride his bike.

Yemane Abraham rides his bike to work year-round. And that includes riding in winter time, on all but the very coldest or snowiest days. He says that it was a challenge for him to get used to the idea of riding his bike on cold days, but like most things in life, once he got used to it, it became the norm. And he has even grown to like it.

By riding his bike to work every day Yemane Abraham says that he is always sure to get plenty of exercise, even as he is traveling from Point A to Point B. Most people look at their commute without much enthusiasm, he says. But he actually looks forward to it. There might be days when he would rather not have to go to work, but knowing he gets to jump on his bike and ride there makes it easier.

There are a lot of advantages to riding a bike to work, says Yemane Abraham. In addition to all that exercise, he says he is never stuck in a traffic jam. When traffic backs up, he is able to go around or through whatever is causing it.

One of the things he likes best about riding his bike to work, though, is all the money he saves. He puts those savings to travel, which is one of the great passions of his life. Before he started riding his bike to work Yemane Abraham estimates that he was spending about one hundred dollars every month on bus far. Cutting out that expense has resulted in huge savings.

But the thing that really got him started riding his bike to work was helping the environment. He likes to think of himself as one less car on the road, and that is something that he takes very seriously. By biking, he saves money on fuel and parking, and on the car insurance that, as someone who doesn't have a car, he never has to pay.
