There is some value found in every degree because it means students have the aptitude to put in the work and effort to complete four or more years of college. Various industries place a value on specific degrees and some degrees open up niche work a general degree could not provide. For business students, one of the many valuable degrees is marketing.
As a former student, Na Xiao is knowledgeable on the theoretical teachings of business and marketing. With an aptitude for classroom material, Na Xiao was actively engaged in coursework and classroom discussion. “Marketing is a great industry to study for business students. Business students don’t have to specialize in marketing to reap the benefits, but even a few classes can help them gain wider insight into what makes a successful and strong business,” says Na Xiao.
As of 2013, Na Xiao has multiple years’ experience working as an assistant professor. Adapting coursework material as a student into course lessons was easy for Na Xiao. “Many of my colleagues found successful careers in business. There are many mid and large size companies looking to hire graduate students of marketing,” says Na Xiao. With an MBA in marketing, Na Xiao opted for educating other marketing students instead of looking for other forms of work.
“I dreamt of working in the marketing department of some large company. However, I found I had a passion for teaching and used my experience to teach others. Even though I’ve decided to become an educator my degree was put to good use,” says Na Xiao.
There are a number of opportunities open to marketing students. Marketing students can find opportunity in a number of industries. “Marketing students develop a number of skills including communication, strategic thinking and planning, research and presentation skills, and the ability to work independently or as a team,” says Na Xiao.
These are the skills that become valuable to a number of employers. “Analytical skills are highly valued and the more effectively students can demonstrate those skills the better,” says Na Xiao. These are the skills that open doors for business and specifically marketing students.
