Vaughn Miller has enjoyed playing polo for many years. In the open field, riding his horse at top speed is exhilarating. Even in an arena, polo is equally as exciting. For twenty years, Vaughn Miller has demonstrated his support for the sport through his membership in the United States Polo Association. Vaughn Miller not only plays polo, he coaches too.
“It is wonderful to see new people interested in the sport. In its simplest description, polo is like field hockey but with the excitement of horseback riding,” says Vaughn Miller. There are millions who enjoy the sport, including women at TCU. “For five years, I was Head Coach of TCU Women’s Intercollegiate Polo Team,” says Vaughn Miller. He is also head coach of the Prestonwood Polo Interscholastic Team.
With years of experience in spotting retail and commercial development opportunities, it came as no real surprise that Vaughn Miller spotted polo as an opportunity to raise money for some local deserving charities. “I have always been honored to help charities in and around north Texas. My wife and I decided to create the Prestonwood Polo Foundation so our love for polo could be matched with our desire to help worthwhile charities,” says Vaughn Miller.
For years, the couple was actively involved in charities without using polo to raise funds. With the help of the Prestonwood Polo Foundation, however, events can be organized to raise money for local charities, such as Wipe out Kids Cancer, Project Transformation, and Family Gateway. “We were thrilled to have created a foundation where something as enjoyable as playing polo can raise money for a noble cause,” says Vaughn Miller.
Vaughn Miller continues to play polo, however, even though a great majority of his time is spent heading his retail property development company, VCM Development Group. The company is a diversified real estate investment company that includes a portfolio of other businesses, including Prestonwood Polo Development, LP and the Prestonwood Polo Foundation, Inc. Vaughn Miller is grateful that his position as a real estate developer has given him the ability to found the Prestonwood Polo Foundation and plans to use the foundation to help charities for many years to come.
