A recent report about the information technology industry in Australia showed that IT services and products have grown in demand the past year. This contributed to the overall growth of the country’s economy.

Sydney, Australia, August 20, 2013 -- According to a statistical report released recently by the Business Monitor International, the information technology industry in Australia is gaining a lot of ground. Latest data for the third quarter of 2013 predict total sales of AUD 26.4 billion by the end of the year. This projection shows an increase of 4% in terms of yearly IT revenue. Despite economic setbacks in the local and international arena, information technology products and services continue to contribute a big percentage of growth for the Australian economy.

Research data revealed that there is a slowdown or decline in the shipment of desktop and notebooks within Australia. However, the growing demand and buying frenzy for tablets and mobile PCs are compensating for the demand decline of traditional computer gear.

Other IT sectors that contributed to overall growth are broadband infrastructure, e-commerce, and online banking. With more and more individuals and companies wanting to digitize their various business processes such as networking, team collaboration, marketing , and quality control, it is expected that the demand for such business products and services will continue to rise in upcoming years.

The information technology sector that registered the highest increase in gross revenue this year is IT services, reflecting a growth of 5.8% compared to the previous year. Services such as IT support, computer network infrastructure setup, project management, and network maintenance are very much in popular demand. This is an indication that more and more small businesses are being started, thus establishing the need for third party IT support.

This economic development and growth in the IT industry is seen as a direct result of the investments made by the National Broadband Network to improve online connectivity nationwide. The effect is that more individuals and businesses are now resorting to cloud computing and the digital space to conduct vital business operations.
