Mark Giannini of Memphis says there are many benefits to reading a lot

Mark Giannini of Memphis is former Chief Executive Officer of Strategic Assurance/Outsource IT, which he founded in 1989 and built into the largest IT service provider in the Mid South. During his business career he has been the recipient of a "Top 40 Under 40" award from the Memphis Business Journal, which also named him its Entrepreneur of the Year in 1997. That same year, Entrepreneur Magazine named him one of the Top 500 Entrepreneurs in the United States.

Mark Giannini of Memphis has been extraordinarily successful in business, and he has consistently given back to the community from which he has derived so much. He has served on the Boards of Directors of many organizations, such as Big Brothers and Big Sisters, the Brooks Museum, and the Dixon Gallery and Gardens.
Mark Giannini of Memphis is a 1987 graduate of Christian Brothers University, but he has never stopped improving himself. He is an avid reader who says that settling in with a good book is one of his favorite things to do. Whether it is reading something that will increase and improve his business knowledge, or something that will provide him hours of pleasant reading, he is a believer in the importance of reading on a regular basis.

The bottom line, he says, is that reading makes you smarter.

But there are too many people these days, he says who unfortunately have not got that message. They might be smart people, but for some reason they just have not gotten into the habit of reading, and Mark Giannini of Memphis says that this is a great pity. There are so many benefits to reading that it can be hard to isolate them all. In addition to making you smarter, he says that reading makes you sit and focus. It also improves your vocabulary and your analytical skills.

He also says that books are way more interesting than any TV show or movie. It's a cliché to say that "the book was better than the movie," but Mark Giannini of Memphis says that nine times out of ten, it's true. And one of the reasons for that is that reading spurs the imagination in ways that no visual medium can. Reading is also a more personal and interactive exchange between the reader and the book. You might find yourself relating to it or understanding it in a deeply personal way that cannot be replicated on a screen, no matter its size.
