In July 2013, Chuan-Fu Wu was appointed by the President of the Health Physics Society to serve a three-year term on the International Collaboration Committee. The International Collaboration Committee is responsible for maintaining ongoing communications and interactions with radiation protection communities abroad, assisting other nations in planning and organizing radiation safety/protection organizations where appropriate, implementing special international or bilateral topical workshops on problems and issues of interest to Society membership, obtaining independent funding for workshop support, arranging for publication of workshop reports consistent with the Health Physics Society’s policy.

The committee acts as a conduit for other international opportunities and options that may be of interest and benefit to the Society, helps arrange outside sponsored visits of Society members to radiological sites abroad where the Health Physics Society special interests may be served, supports the "Radiation Safety Without Boarders" initiative, and provides information to the Society of potential international visitors who may be potential speakers at Health Physics Society meetings. The committee also serves as the Health Physics Society’s primary point of contact with major international organizations such as the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the International Radiation Protection Association (IRPA), and the United Nation’s Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation (UNSCEAR).

As Dr. Darrell Fisher, President of the Health Physics Society, pointed out, “Dr. Wu has an outstanding track of records in promoting radiation safety in the U.S. and globally. The Health Physics Society is please to have him on the International Collaboration Committee. He will serve as the key member for communications and interactions with Asian countries, including the Health Physics Society’s Taiwan Chapter. He will be effective in helping the committee to achieve its mission, goals, and objectives over the next three years.”

The Health Physics Society was formed in 1956. It is an organization of scientists, professionals, students, and affiliates who are dedicated to radiation safety. Boasting over 5,000 members, the Health Physics Society has become a leading provider of information, resources, and professional development opportunities for those concerned with radiation safety. For over 25 years, Chuan-Fu Wu has been an active member of the Health Physics Society. Due to his career-long contributions to the promotion of radiation safety, Chuan-Fu Wu received the Health Physics Society’s Fellow Award in 2005. Just turned 50 at that time, Chuan-Fu Wu was the youngest health physicist to earn this prestigious recognition. Reflecting upon his receipt of this award, Chuan-Fu Wu states, “I was overwhelmed by receiving such an honor. It motivates me to continue do my best to support the radiation protection community.”

Regarding his quarter century membership with the Health Physics Society, Chuan-Fu Wu had this to say: “I have always enjoyed participating in the organization and promoting safe radiation practices.” Chuan-Fu Wu’s impressive history of involvement with the Health Physics Society speaks to the level of dedication he has for the field. Over the past 25 years, Chuan-Fu Wu has served as Chair of the Health Physics Society’s Laboratory Accreditation Assessment Committee, Chair of the Professional Enrichment Program, as well as a member of the Continuing Education Committee and the Laboratory Accreditation Committee.Appreciative of the service the Health Physics Society provides its members, Chuan-Fu Wu looks forward to continuing his association with the organization. A respected expert in his field, Chuan-Fu Wu is a model of professionalism who consistently strives to stay on top of current events in his field. Chuan-Fu Wu is also an active member of the Program Advisory Committee for Waste Management Symposia, the Federal Senior Executives Association, and the U.S. National Committee to the International Electrotechnical Commission.
