Doug Herbert’s B.R.A.K.E.S. (Be Responsible And Keep Everyone Safe) Teen Pro-Active Driving School today announced the addition of eight additional stops on its 2018 teen defensive driving tour. The charity will pursue its mission of preventing injuries and saving lives by offering free advanced driver training at 38 weekend schools comprising 152 classes, reaching as many as 12,000 teens and parents.
In addition to 30 already-announced 2018 schools, B.R.A.K.E.S. will make first-time visits to Jefferson City, Missouri, and Topeka, Kansas, thanks in part to grants from the Missouri and Kansas Departments of Transportation. B.R.A.K.E.S. will also return to six cities in the Midwest, including Detroit, Chicago, Kansas City, St. Louis, Cincinnati and Cleveland, with partial support from area Kia Dealer Marketing Groups, DENSO, the Mitchell Kiefer Foundation, and a grant from General Motors Corporate Giving.
“We have so many people to thank for their support of B.R.A.K.E.S. and our ongoing mission to prevent the number-one cause of death among teens,” said Herbert, a multi-time Top Fuel drag racing champion who founded the charity in 2008 after the tragic loss of his teenage sons, Jon and James, in a car crash. “Each weekend training program costs us about $50,000 to put on, so eight new schools represents a lot of generosity and belief in our cause. We’re grateful to be able to reach so many teens and parents this year and to be able to add some places where the charity’s never been before.”
