Are you considering a Vitamin or Mineral Supplement?

Many people turn to dietary supplements to support their health and prevent nutrient deficiencies. However, many people turning to supplements do not understand exactly what their body needs.

Therefore, they are simply putting supplements in their body without a plan or knowledge of exactly what their body needs. That is why at New Beginnings, we offer nutritional counseling for our patients.

We can often get all of the nutrients we need from food, but very few people do.

Some nutrients – such as vitamin D and copper – are found in few foods, while others – like magnesium – are found in a variety of foods but in very small quantities. In addition, people who are dieting are less likely to meet their vitamin and mineral needs because they are consuming less food overall and therefore have fewer opportunities to consume nutrients. Those who do not eat a diverse array of nutrient-rich foods will also have a tough time meeting all of their nutrient needs. Over the years, our food supply has been depleted of nutrients from major changes in the agricultural industry. We have more fruits, vegetables and grains than ever before. However, much of it has trace amounts of the nutrients we expect to be in our food.

We are currently living in a state of overabundance and malnutrition.

As a nation, we consume too many calories but fail to ingest enough of the proper nutrients which are necessary for good health. Because many people don’t eat as well as they would like, they often turn to dietary supplements to help fill in the gaps in their nutritional balance.

In fact, more than half of the U.S. population uses dietary supplements. This indicates a trend toward taking personal responsibility for one’s own health. It also shows a growing acceptance of supplementation as a potential route to better health and protection against age- and diet-related diseases.
