Matthew Baird of Stoughton is proud to be a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. Matthew Baird of Stoughton credits the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity with instilling in him strong values. He has great respect for the philosophies that guide the fraternity. Matthew Baird of Stoughton believes that Sigma Phi Epsilon is truly unique among fraternities in the Greek system. "When I first started thinking about joining a fraternity I spent some time researching the different options available on campus. Sigma Phi Epsilon really stood out among all the choices. I couldn't be more pleased with my decision to join Sigma Phi Epsilon," says Matthew Baird of Stoughton.

Matthew Baird of Stoughton notes that in the early 1990's the leadership of Sigma Phi Epsilon observed many troubling trends associated with the Greek fraternity system. Hazing rituals associated with joining a fraternity were sometimes out of control and students were being harmed. Alcohol and substance abuse issues were also prevalent in some fraternities. The leadership at Sigma Phi Epsilon made the conscious decision to address these issues head on. Matthew Baird of Stoughton remarks that the fraternity actively worked with college administrators to establish a zero tolerance policy for the hazing of potential members. The leadership of Sigma Phi Epsilon was so appalled by these practices that they abolished pledging all together and now members are accepted on a year round basis.

Sigma Phi Epsilon is concerned with instilling in its members strong values and leadership skills. Sigma Phi Epsilon takes great pride in offering many leadership opportunities to its members. "Members are encouraged to become effective and dynamic leaders. There are many opportunities for leadership within the fraternity. The executive board gives undergraduate students an opportunity to take an active role in the structure of their fraternity," says Matthew Baird of Stoughton.

The fraternity also encourages students to participate in philanthropic acts. Members of the fraternity often work together to organize fundraisers for local charities and non-profits. Many Sigma Phi Epsilon members also devote their personal time to assisting in volunteer projects according to Matthew Baird of Stoughton. Matthew Baird of Stoughton is very proud to be a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.
