The colors of clothing are divided into the following three categories:
Red, yellow, orange and other similar colors are warm colors, which give people the sensation of heat; Blue is color of cool, which give a cold feeling to people; green and purple is the moderate color.
Choosing warm colors in winter and cold colors in summer is the principle in the selection of clothing colors, especially in Chinese traditional dress. Clothing color should be used to reconcile so that clothes will look generous and appropriate.
Some tips about choosing the color of clothes:
One of them is choosing one color to be the background, and then use different shades of other close colors to match it. The other is based on a main color, adding a little color which is contrasted, which can leave an elegant appearance to people. Intensely comparative color looks like the stage clothing, and it is inappropriate for daily wearing.
From the viewpoint of costume design, whether the colors are well collocated or not will definitely show a person’s appreciation ability towards clothes. But our appearance, other than the moment we face the mirror, we are appreciated and evaluated by others for most of the time. Therefore, to abandon the subjective preferences and base on objective criteria to determine the collocation of color is the first secret of dress art.
Red symbolizes warmth, passion and excitement. In ancient China, the color red plays an important role in Chinese traditional dress. Light red can be used during the spring. Intense red, while ,is suitable for summer. And deep red is the ideal color in autumn. We Chinese think that red is a lucky color. So in the spring or in wedding, birthday party and other festive occasions, people love the color of bright red, which we think will add luck. Reportedly, after the Mongols ruled China, the preference for red habit spread to China, and it has been used up to now.
Now there is no obvious concept towards the color red, and it totally depends on personal preferences. When wearing red trousers or skirt, the upper body can be dispensed with white or beige jacket, and you can also use red corsage pins to decorate tops. If it is a light red plaid skirt, you can make a collocation with a deep red coat and a hat with straw yellow color, then shoes and handbags in white.
The color yellow belongs to the warm color system. It usually stands for the adjectives of warm, happy, vibrant, self-willed, authority, and lively. Yellow with high chroma is the symbol of richness and honor, especially in Chinese traditional dress, and yellow with low intensity is the most ideal color. The moderate brilliant yellow is suitable for summer use, but deep strong yellow will do good to the autumn atmosphere. Gauze clothes in pale yellow enjoy the romantic atmosphere. Therefore using it as the color of long gown might as well be a good choice. Pale yellow jacket and coffee- color skirt and pants are good collocation.
There will conflicts when match the color pink with pale yellow. And the orange and blue is very collocation of taboo, which should be avoided. Note that, although blue and green are of the same shade, but do not collocate dark blue and dark green with each other, even if the light is not suitable.
