Fabric jewelry is an environmentally friendly and unique fashion accessory that offers a lot of benefits. When you wear fabric jewelry, you feel so comfortable because the fabric is lightweight. It is perfect to wear and can add an extra touch of fashion to most of your outfit. Fabric is an unusual but versatile material for jewelry. You are able not only to create various designs; the material is also reusable and recyclable. With the increasing cost of metals and gemstones, fabric can help reduce the cost of jewelry making a great deal.

Some fabric jewelry ideas include “mop head” earrings. This is made up of fabric strips that are multi-colored and multi-textured fabric strips in lengths that range from 1” to 2”. These strips are bundled together by metal strings so it looks like a mop head full of fun. You can pair it with a chic party frock or blue jeans. Another idea for fabric jewelry is the colorful braid which you can wear around your waist, or neck or wrist to give you that dramatic look. Depending on the length, you can make a single, double, triple or more rounds, and you can freely tie a knot. This is made of fantastically twisted colored strips of fabric bundled at both ends with metal wire. You can buy these items online or do it yourself.

Fabric being a versatile material is not only used in making fabric jewelry, but also in making Apple iPad cases. iPads are sleek electronic devices that look better when covered by something handmade. The DIY technique will apply here if you need a cover or a case for any flat devices like iPads, iPods, phones, and computers. If you have a background in needlework, making an iPad case from fabric is an easy task, you will be able to finish several in a day’s work.

The materials you will need to sew an iPad case are:

- outer fabric which should be something thick like corduroy,
- lining fabric which should be soft and lightweight, like a thrifted sheet,
- fusible interfacing, which should be of medium to light weight, and
- cutting and basic sewing tools.

Cut your fabric according to the dimension of the iPad which are 9.50” high, 7.3” wide and with dept of 0.34”. You can adjust the sizes according to the device that you are making the case for.

Following manufacturer directions, the interfacing shall be fused to the wrong side of the lining fabric. Place it on the lining piece leaving about ¾” from the bottom and the sides. You can begin sewing the first set of outer and lining fabrics together, making sure that the interfacing is in between the 2 fabrics. Repeat the process for the 2nd set. The process of sewing an iPad case is similar to sewing a pillow case, so it is not very hard to do. Making fabric cases is also a fun way of spending an afternoon with friends. You can experiment with different fabric prints and colors to attain your desired case.
