​Das Chuwi Lapbook Air wirkt rein äußerlich nicht wie ein relativ günstiges China Laptop. Das Gerät besteht - wie mittlerweile die meisten Laptops aus China - vollständig aus Metall. Im Gegensatz zu vielen anderen Geräten wurde hier jedoch eine höhere Materialstärke gewählt. Dies macht was Chuwi Lapbook Air verwindungsfester und sorgt für eine hochwertigere Haptik. Um die Oberkante der Basis sowie das Touchpad zieht sich eine glänzende Fase. Das Gehäuse scheint also zumindest per CNC-Fräse bearbeitet worden zu sein. Die einzelnen Teile passen gut zusammen. Die Bodenplatte schließt recht sauber mit dem restlichen Body ab. Zahlreiche Schrauben sorgen hier für einen sicheren Sitz und vier große Gummifüße sorgen für einen sicheren Stand des Laptops. Das Chuwi Lapbook Air trägt seinen Namen zu Recht. Die Basis läuft nach vorne hin spitz zu und ist maximal 8,6 sowie minimal 2,9mm dick. Das Display ist nochmal 4,8mm dick und muss natürlich im zugeklappten Zustand addiert werden. Überrascht hat uns, dass das Chuwi Lapbook Air nur 1,341kg wiegt. Für ein 14 Zoll Laptop geht das Gewicht absolut in Ordnung.

Etwas das den Premium-Eindruck etwas trübt, ist ein Knarzen, welches an manchen Stellen vom Gehäuse auftritt, wenn man es an bestimmten Stellen anhebt oder Druck ausübt. Zudem erzeugt das Displayscharnier beim Öffnen und Schließen ein leichtes Knacken. Abseits davon setzt sich er wertige Eindruck allerdings auch im aufgeklappten Zustand fort. Einen großen Beitrag dazu leistet das Display, welches in diesem Fall wie bei den Apple MacBooks mit Glas bedeckt ist. Um das Glas befinden sich an manchen Stellen Abstandshalter aus Gummi, welche allerdings nicht weit genug herausstehen. Wir haben immer wieder mal Abdrücke der Tastatur auf dem Displayglas gesehen. Die Komponenten berühren sich also trotzdem - wenn auch nur leicht. Dies kommt allerdings nur dann vor, wenn man das Chuwi Lapbook Air transportiert und dabei Druck auf das Display ausgeübt wurde. Steht das Laptop normal auf dem Tisch und wird zugeklappt, wird die Tastatur nicht berührt. Zu Beschädigungen am Glas hat das bisher jedoch nicht geführt. Das Glas scheint relativ resistent gegen Kratzer zu sein, wie ein Poliertest mit einem nicht ganz sauberen Tuch gezeigt hat.

Im Vergleich mit anderen China Laptops ist der Hub der Tasten deutlich höher, was uns sehr zusagt - doch das ist sicherlich auch Geschmackssache. Zudem federn die Tasten die Fingern angenehm zurück, was beim schnellen Schreiben den Komfort erhöht. Das haptische Feedback der Tasten ist klar, der Druckwiderstand dabei aber nicht zu hoch. Die Tasten sind sehr stabil und wackeln nicht. So entsteht beim Tippen kein billig wirkendes Klappern. Die Tastatur bzw. das Gehäuse biegt sich außerdem bei festen Anschlägen nicht durch. Im gesamten Testzeitraum blieben bisher auch keine Tasten stecken. Darüber hinaus finden wir es gut, dass das Chuwi Lapbook Air auch Tastatur Shortcuts zum Regeln von Displayhelligkeit, Lautstärke und dem WLAN Modul bietet. Die oftmals fehlende Print Screen Taste ist auch mit am Start. Leider ist das Chuwi Lapbook Air nur mit US-Tastaturlayout verfügbar (QWERTY). Das QWERTZ Layout lässt sich aber trotzdem nutzen. Beachtet jedoch, dass ihr dann nicht in der Lage seit die Größer / Kleiner Zeichen einzugeben.
