Junior Scholars’ educational toys, games and bookshop have released their top ten toys & games list for Christmas 2013. The Junior Scholars’ top ten is a result of a popular response and interest from parents for fun and educational products to help improve numeracy and literacy, with a slant on learning and technology. Parents are realising the importance of introducing their kids to a tech savvy world as early as possible in their early years. This runs parallel to Ofsted’s recent announcement encouraging nurseries to introduce electronic tablets to kids as early as 3 years of age.

The director, Clive Brothers, says ‘We have been championing a number of product ranges this year, but always keep in mind that our mission is to provide a range of kids’ toys and games that can captivate and inspire, as well as motivate and teach. Enabling children to achieve necessary standards of literacy and numeracy has always been our guiding principle.’

A snapshot and three of the products from the Junior Scholars’ Top 10 Christmas Toys list are: 1. Letter Factory Phonics from LeapFrog for preschool age.

2. Counting Caterpillars from Orchard Toys, British-made, designed to help concentration, memory skills, and improving number abilities.

3. Learn to Write with Mr Pencil: an interactive tablet stylus for children for use on an iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Suitable for ages 3-6.

Sam Clough, the senior product buyer, reinforces the point: ‘We appreciate the need for toys to appeal to all budgets and tastes, but also that technology is playing an important role in shaping the future. We aim to provide the latest educational resources and tools so the kids of tomorrow are prepared to take on an increasingly demanding and competitive environment in later life.’
