To meet the increasing demand of students who are seeking shorter study times, Centennial College has created programs that offered compressed and carefully measured delivery of courses.
One such program is the court monitor and court clerk training - known as Court Support Services. This program is completed in just two semesters but includes a range of learning approaches that help students to retain the information they acquire. Among the learning methods used in this offering are: practical hands-on learning in a simulated courtroom setting; attendances in the family, criminal, small claims and municipal court settings; attendances at various tribunal hearings; and practical, career-oriented assignments.
The Ministry of the Attorney General has approved this municipal court training. As such, it includes courses like Court Clerk Criminal (Ontario Court of Justice), Court Clerk – Family, Court Monitor, Ethics and Professional Conduct, Current Issues in Canadian Law, Word Processing Applications and many others.
The role of the court clerk is multifaceted and includes the implementation of courtroom procedures, in addition to working with judges, lawyers and other courtroom personnel. Graduates launch careers with The Ministry of the Attorney General, municipal courts, tribunals and board, official examiners and court reporting services.
