Wilder, Kentucky, 22nd April, 2014 – Advance GSA is a name to reckon with in the field of GSA consultancy. The company has successfully guided over a thousand business firms in the last few years to achieve government permission to sell their goods and products in the federal market. One of their recent initiatives was a public seminar entitled ‘Know Your GSA’ inviting business firms from across the nation to participate in and understand the intricacies of GSA schedule contract including GSA Schedule Letter of Supply.

One of the foremost areas of discussions was the relevancy of procuring GSA Letter of Supply for applicant firms. In their quest to make the subject matter understandable, the experts of Advance GSA offered a succinct explanation on what GSA Schedule Letter of Supply is all about. Here’s a synopsis from what was discussed at the seminar.

The seminar started with the discussion on the topic understanding GSA Letter of Supply. Here are the prime points discussed –

• What is a GSA Schedule Letter of Supply

When a firm wants to sell those products in the GSA market to federal clients which they themselves do not manufacture, but procure from the manufacturing firms, for such products the GSA contractor has to submit a GSA Letter of Supply to the certifying authority where the corporate representative of the manufacturing firm must certify the GSA contractor giving them the sole permission to sell their product under the contractors’ brand name.

• What purpose does a GSA Letter of Supply serve?

To this end the Advance GSA experts elucidated the attendees that a GSA Schedule Letter of Supply is a commitment rather than just a formal declaration between the GSA authority and the GSA approved firm that fair and just business is being conducted without procuring any sort of loss (financial or physical) to the manufacturer. GSA believes in honest and fair business transaction and thus the ‘Letter of Supply’ or ‘LOS’ upholds its moral sanctity as an honorable institution.

• Is GSA Schedule Letter of Supply mandatory for applicant firms?

While many participants looked uncertain about answering this question, a few of them supported the view and few others were against the motion. In fact this is quite a common question that arises in the minds of almost every GSA schedule contract applicant. “While some companies like to believe that a letter of supply should be made mandatory for every other GSA applicant, there is no justified reason for believing this to be true”, said an expert from the Advance GSA consultant team. Although GSA soliciting might mention LOS as a mandatory requirement, this is not so.
The final verdict was that GSA Letter of Supply (LOS) is not compulsory, and it is not something which each and every business firm applying for the GSA schedule contract must comply with. The GSA policy states clearly that LOS is not needed as long as all the other evidence (documents that are to be submitted to the GSA during application) substantiated that the applying contractor/ vendor has a legitimate supply source.
Advance GSA’s initiative cleared up some of the basic misconceptions surrounding the much debated topic of GSA Schedule Letter of Supply.
