Known for its famous multi-coloured sandstone, the arty town ofClarens is situated in the Eastern Free State Highlands.

 
When entering Clarens one will be welcomed by the ‘unsinkable’ Titanic. When news broke that the real titanic had sunk, an unknown Clarens resident looked at the “nek” and saw a rock that resembled the shape of the titanic. The rock shape has since been called, ‘The Titanic’. You will also see the beautiful homes, modern and vintage architecture, built in the rare sandstone. Just east of the village you will find the mighty Maluti Mountains.

Being named one of the most charming villages, with unique geological features and a wonderful climate, Clarens is the gem of the Free State and a must see in South Africa. Clarens not only boasts about being one of the best attractions in South Africa, but they also flaunt theirdeveloping business community. These include farming, co-op, medical clinics etc.

In Clarens, you are offered a tranquil experience. One can spend the day discovering all that the little town has to offer.
