Dr. Dasen Brajkovic MD is an individual who cares a great deal about his career, and his ability to positively impact the lives of others through his work. He has been working in the medical field since 1987, which is when he graduated medical school.

A Board-certified psychiatrist, he has always taken a keen interest in the human mind. He spent a great deal of his early career participating in research programs that aimed to uncover some of the mysteries of dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, and long-term drug use. He is the current Medical Director of Psychiatric Services for the Staten Island University Hospital, and he is responsible for the supervision of sixty staff members, which includes residents, students, and physician assistants in training.

Dr. Dasen Brajkovic has been working in the medical field for several decades, and he understands what it means to be successful. Psychiatry deals a great deal with direct patient care, and it is at the heart of the discipline. Although he works in a more administrative role now, his experience comes from working with patients directly. Not only does he still find the time to serve as a part-time associate for a private practice in New York, but he also worked as a psychiatrist for Rikers Island Correctional Facility. Here are some tips for working directly with patients.

The first thing you need to keep in mind when you’re working with patients directly is that they are the main focus. A good psychiatrist knows that listening is the most important aspect of the job; let your patient feel comfortable talking about themselves and the things that they tend to focus on most during the course of the day. Listening will provide insight into deeper issues.

Dasen Brajkovic also explains that you need to let the patient draw conclusions of their own. True understanding comes when you let yourself find the answers. Psychiatrists are there to help guide their patients in the right direction, but they have to let their patients heal on their own, and in their own understanding. Although some patients need more aid than others getting to the answers, your job is to find out what the patient needs.
