Marie-Klaire Farrugia MD MD(Res) FRCSEd(Paed.Surg) is Consultant Paediatric Urologist in Chelsea and Westminster Hospital (C&W) and Imperial College Hospitals, specialising on all areas of kidney, bladder and genital anomalies that babies are born with or develop later in childhood. She is an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at Imperial College, as well as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Pediatric Urology, and is well-published in her field. As Clinical Lead for Paediatric Surgery in the North West London Network, Miss Farrugia is responsible for the coordination of care of paediatric surgical newborns and children across the main west London hospitals.

Miss Farrugia obtained her medical degree from the University of Malta and moved to the U.K. in 2001 to pursue a career in Paediatric Surgery. She completed her specialist training in Great Ormond Street Hospital, St George’s Hospital, Kings College Hospital and the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, qualifying as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in Paediatric Surgery in 2008. She subsequently sub-specialised in Paediatric Urology, which is now her main area of expertise. She spent two-years in full-time research at the University College London (UCL) Institute of Child Health, looking into prenatally-diagnosed bladder conditions and how they affect kidney development. Her work led to a number of peer-reviewed publications and the award of a research MD from the University of London. Her research was awarded the joint European Society of Pediatric Urology and American Academy of Pediatrics travelling fellowship, which enabled Miss Farrugia to gain further experience in leading US centres in Boston, Baltimore and San Francisco.
