Irvine, California Mar 22, 2014 -- HomeAid America, a nonprofit organization that provides housing to the temporarily homeless in America, is proud to announce that it has been selected to receive a $100,000 donation from Masco Corporation and its Foundation.

Through a competitive grant process, HomeAid America was awarded grants for its programs which: 1) focus on improving the energy efficiency of the shelters it builds for homelessness care providers, and 2) assist these agencies which focus on helping homeless military veterans.

The first grant of $50,000 for the Environments For Living® program, an initiative of Masco Home Services, Inc. that offers professional services to support regional and national home builders in applying building science and energy-efficient construction practices in the field. HomeAid will use this money, working through its local chapters, to assist non-profit homelessness agencies in California, Colorado, and Northern Virginia, to conduct energy efficiency programs. This EFL program has been very successfully implemented through HomeAid’s Environmental Sustainability Program over the past three years, resulting in a 38% reduction in energy costs for the Service Providers.

The second $50,000 grant was made possible through Masco’s America’s Heroes: A Million Thanks” veteran initiative, which is targeting more than $1 million in support to over 50 veteran-focused organizations that provide affordable and physically accessible housing: education, job training and employment initiatives; and related military support services. HomeAid will also work through its chapters to put this funding to use in building housing projects for organizations helping homeless veterans.

“The mission of HomeAid America clearly aligns with the objectives of our veteran initiative, and we are proud to support its efforts,” said Timothy Wadhams, President & CEO of Masco Corporation, in the December award letter. “Masco values the service and sacrifice of our U.S. veterans, military troops and their families, and is committed to supporting housing solutions for our nation’s heroes.”

HomeAid America CEO Peter Simons said, “Our partnership with Masco and its Environments For Living® program has been incredible over the past several years, and this latest showing of generosity is just amazing. We will work hard to see that these grants are put to good use to help organizations helping the homeless around the country. This year is HomeAid’s 25th Anniversary, and we recently surpassed $200 million in housing built for the homeless over this period. With wonderful partners like Masco, we hope to continue building for those in need in our community for years to come.”
