Madrid, Spain, April 25, 2013 - Marca España has signed a collaboration agreement with the Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB) in a bid to promote the country initiative.

The national basketball team is the best-loved sports team in Spain. In fact, 81% of the population give it a score of over 7 out of 10, and it has attracted more television viewers than any other team (6.5 million for the final against the United States in the last Olympics). As former national team player Jorge Garbajosa said at the signing of this agreement, this means that “the collaboration between the FEB and the Marca España is not just timely and well-targeted but also natural and essential”.

Coming ahead of the World Cup to be held in Spain in 2014, this agreement will help to boost Spain’s image both inside and outside the country. “We are happy for the Marca España to use basketball as a tool to promote the country concept both within and beyond our borders, because Spanish sport is an example of success and talent and a tool for social transformation”, said FEB President José Luis Sáez, also speaking at the signing of the agreement.

The Government’s High Commissioner for the Marca España, Carlos Espinosa de los Monteros, praised the FEB for having “spent many years promoting the Marca España around the world”, and referred to the spectacular development of Spanish team sports in recent years. The players from the national basketball team “take their inspiration from values such as camaraderie, organisational skills and hard work – which perfectly mirror the attributes of Spain itself”, he went on.

Some of the biggest names in Spanish basketball attended the signing ceremony, as well as former national team members such as Juan Antonio Corbalán, José Luis Llorente and Emiliano Rodríguez.
