The holy saint Gurmeet Ram Raheem has more than 6 crore followers not only across northern states of the country but also all over the world. His followers are spread worldwide and a PTI report said that Gurmeet Ram Rahim was "the most supported" nomination for Awards for the year 2017. Not only this he received a total of 4,208 recommendations - and this is the highest for any personality in the list which included stalwarts like former Lok Sabha speaker late P A Sangma, Murli Manohar Joshi, Sharad Pawar, Carnatic musician KJ Yesudas and cricketer Virat Kohli.

As it is well known that in the regions of Punjab and Haryana the caste-based system is rampant. He even provided food, ration, education, free medical services and money for various social rituals to the poor. This proved a major won for him with the allegiance of the large disadvantaged group. In the regions of Punjab and Haryana drug abuse and liquor are the major problems prevailing in the society since decades. He launched various campaigns against drug abuse. This call was very popular among the women made it very popular among women. Women flocked to Dera and returned with the male members of their families, who found an alternative faith offering them equality and dignity.
