We humans have always been fascinated by extraterrestrial life, thinking up new ways of discovering life beyond Earth and creation our own world of creatures from far away galaxies. This interest is largely due to the human trait which causes us to find something common with everybody, applicable here as finding something similar to us in some other galaxy.

Scientists have long presumed that if we’re going to find life on other planets, we’re going to find them in a place where conditions are just right for water to exist. And when imagining locations where extraterrestrial life could potentially exist, man has looked to Mars and imagined it as a home for other beings. Scientists think that Mars wasn’t always the barren land it is today, and in the past, water may have flowed across the surface in rivers and streams. Apart from the scientific nature of the topic, the literary world is filled with books featuring aliens and many other forms of extraterrestrial life. Below is a list of some such sci-fi books aliens:

1. The Martian
Andy Weir’s debut novel on planet Mars is also a film adaptation. Based 2035, the Martian is the story of Mark Watney, who is stranded on Mars while on a space mission.

2. The War of the Worlds
First published in 1898, War of the Worlds by H. G. Wells is one of the earliest stories that detail a conflict between mankind and an extraterrestrial race.

3. Old Man's War

Featuring soldier John Perry, the story is set in a universe heavily populated with life forms, where human colonists must compete for the scarce planets that are suitable for sustaining life. The characters have enhanced DNA traits, giving them advantages in strength, speed, and endurance.

4. Gateway
This 1977 Hugo Award winning sci-fi novel by Frederik Pohl is about a long-vanished alien race, Heechee. Gateway is a space station built into a hollow asteroid constructed by the Heechee, filled with thousands of abandoned starships. Gateway is sort of an escape route for the starving people from Earth. The novel was adapted into a computer game in 1992.

5. The Host

One such Souls faces a predicament when the consciousness of her human host refuses to co-operate with the takeover of her body, and The Host is the story of this girl.
