Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), on Monday, announced an exclusive partnership with mobile payments company Mobikwik. Mobikwik will handle e-cash payments of IRCTC's e-catering app, and Food on Track.

Food on Track allows passengers to buy food from their preferred restaurants, which will be delivered right to their train coaches. Mobikwik is also powering payments for IRCTC Connect, an app for booking train tickets online.

Mrinal Sinha, COO of Mobikwik, said that the partnership will benefit users on a large scale as now they don't have to worry about paying in cash, which is a tedious task.

"Last year, MobiKwik became the primary wallet on IRCTC Connect, and this year, we are taking our partnership a step further by offering a robust e-cash payments option on IRCTC's e-catering app", she said.

"Transacting with MobiKwik wallet on the move is fast and convenient. Users can pay through MobiKwik even in areas with spotty or patchy mobile connection as it is the lightest mobile wallet app in the country", Mrinal added.

Passengers can pre-order food at more than 300 stations from prominent food chains like Dominos, KFC, IRCTC Food Plaza, Punjab Grill and others through the app. Apart from online payment, Mobikwik will also allow its users to use cash on delivery at select cities besides offering cash deposit at over 1,00,000 locations across 1,000 cities in India.

"This is especially helpful for those who do not have access to net-banking, credit and debit cards or aren't comfortable using the same," added Mrinal.

A feature named 'nearby' on Mobikwik will help users to see all cash loading locations. Currently, the cash pick-up facility is available in New Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Jaipur, and Surat. The service recently completed one million transactions.
