Classic Drinking Games

Sooner or later someone at the party will order a pizza. Instead of throwing away the box you can make good use of it to get back the buzz that was killed by all those carbs and fat.

Cheers to the Governor

This one is fun because you don’t need anything but your booze. You can do a quick round outside the club when you’re finishing your drinks (who can afford to actually get drunk in a club right?). The players have to count to 21, each saying one number. When they get to 21 they say “Cheers to the governor” and the governor (different person every round) makes up a new rule. For example, when someone gets to the number 12 they have to say “fish” instead of “12”. If they fail, they drink. The starting rule is usually to have 7 and 14 switched.

Pizza Box

Sooner or later someone at the party will order a pizza. Instead of throwing away the box you can make good use of it to get back the buzz that was killed by all those carbs and fat. Each person has to write their name in the box and circle it. Then everyone takes turns bouncing a quarter in to the box. Anyone who misses has to drink… anyone noticing a pattern? If the quarter lands on a name, that person drinks and if it lands on an empty space the “coin tosser” writes a drinking rule in the box and makes a shape around it (you can get creative with that. From then on, whenever the coin lands on that space the tosser has to follow the rule.

King’s Cup

One of the favourites because it has so many options. Basically you need a deck of cards, each card (ace, king, queen…) has a specific rule and players draw the cards in turn and need to follow the rules. Some common rules are: choose one person to drink, whenever you put your elbow on the table everyone must do the same and the last person to notice has to drink, all women/men drink etc. This game ensures hours of fun… if you have an iron stomach.

Flip Cup

This game is a bit different from other drinking games in that you don’t get punished for losing by having to drink but you win by being a good drinker. It’s for people who take pride in their drinking abilities and only want recognition as a reward. The rules are very simple but it does take quite a lot of practice to master the game. There are two teams, each on one side of the table. Each player has a cup and all the cups are filled with an equal amount of the same drink. When the game starts one player from each team drink his or her drink, places the empty cup on the table and tries to flip it by tapping the edge. The cup has to land top down. When one person succeeds the next person on their team has to do the same until everyone in the team has succeeded. The fastest team obviously wins.

Beer Pong

This of course is the most iconic drinking game. There are countless rules and variations of the game but the general idea is that there is an array of cups filled with beer on a table with a team or person on either side. The objective of beer pong is to get a ping-pong ball in to a cup by throwing or bouncing the ball. If you manage to do that the opponent has to drink the contents of the cup. Very simple but very fun. Plus, it’s always great fun to have your friend’s drinking fate in your hands.
