Pastels - Soothing Soft Shades of Bright Colours

Posted June 2, 2016 by Unnati123

Pastels are in vogue and the market has taken to this pleasing range of hues in more ways than one. Colours that are soft, soothing and lacking strong chromatic content, pastel coloured fabrics are quite a rage when it comes to fashion.

02/06/2016, Hyderabad, India - The Indian saree - large canvas to explore and exploit, offers maximum scope for delightful experiments in colour. You could have a single colour in the large expanse, you could have the field in two major colours, have variation with smaller areas of colours as lengthy runs in one or both portions, a multitude of colours in different parts of the wide field or a million other combinations.
Pastels are one of the latest in the world of colours in fashion. Let’s explore!

Pastels are soft colours that bring about the better feelings of the range of emotions known to man. Pastels are a family of colours which are described as colours that are soothing, soft, or lacking strong chromatic content. Typical examples of pastels would be pink, mauve, baby blue, colours that the world would associate with femininity, romanticism, tenderness, childhood and sensitivity.

Pastels also include the not so light and delicate colours but in their light hues. Blue green, lavender, very light orange, coral, turquoise in their pale and subdued avatars, constitute the modern pastel lot. The last three also go under the Pastel Easter colours.

Joyous moments or occasions that symbolize something new like re-birth, new growth or fresh beginnings - something to rejoice about.
Some meanings attached to pastel colours are:
Yellow denotes the shining sun as on a bright day in spring against which nothing can depress or in other words, total joy and happiness
Green talks of Hope, renewal of Faith, rebirth, emotions that infuse a fresh surge of energy after trying moments
Pink is a new beginning, a healthy fresh start to something, light heartedness or playfulness
Orange represents the dawn of things, be it the day, fresh projects, new relationships etc.
Lavender is something out of the way, something special, coziness, a warm feel.
Blue is all about harmony, peace tranquility, a colour that soothes ruffled feelings, calms agitation.

Pastels not being bright and closer to dull, they fall midway between the tints (bright colours) and the shades (dark colours and hues). When pastel dresses are worn, then having a darker, brighter or more saturated colour would provide a delightful contrast that avoids looking washed out. In sarees the body could have pastels while the borders and adornments could provide the needed contrast to enhance the appeal.

This trend is innovatively highlighted in a new range of Pastel sarees. Varieties like Venkatagiri cotton, Kerala cotton, Bengal handlooms, Assam Sico, Tussar silk, Jaipuri Prints, Rajasthan handlooms, Kalamkaris and a lot more jostle with each other to get the attention of the market in their extremely attractive pastel ranges.

The Indian wedding scene is never complete without the pink and red colored bridal sarees and attire. But in recent times there has been a pleasant turnaround. Pastels comparatively not at all bright are worn as bridal attire without compunctions. In fact the new brides are quite bold and forthcoming in going all out for experimenting with pastels.

Shades like lilac and peach have come in as successfully tried out alternatives. While the effect may not be very dazzling, there is a new freshness to the look which is most appealing. And the brides still look resplendent!

Pastels brighten up your life not so much with the colour but more so with their presence. A soothing touch, a calming effect, pastels definitely do away with hustle and bother leaving only peace and quiet to ‘brighten up’ the atmosphere.
