The usage of animal skins in textile industries has been there for centuries. From clothing to bags and boots the use of various animal skin products is high days.

 
Although humans get benefitted a lot by this, the animals are been cruelly treated to extract these items.

The usage of animal skin for various purpose has been started a long ago. Today there are a variety of materials produced from the skin of various animals. From wool dresses to alpaca socks, the usage of this animal based textile product is high today. All will come across many animal-based products daily without even knowing it. The improvement in technology has helped us and the textile industry in this way a lot. Here are some of the important animal skin based textile products available in the market today.

Leather can be the best example to say when it comes to animal skin product. This flexible material made from animal hide has been there in existence for over a long period of time. Leather is extracted from a variety of animals like a shark, deer, goat, etc. the use of leather today ranges from bags and belts to car seat covers. The production of leather is a complex process including a lot of steps.

Fibre is another important textile product extracted from the animal skin. These are mainly used in the production of knitted and woven items. The most commonly used animal is the silk worm, but many rare species are also used for fibre extraction. An example is an alpaca an endemic species used for the production of alpaca throw rugs, sweaters, socks, etc.

Wool is a wide-used material extracted from animal skin today. Sheep is the main animal used in wool extraction. The same sheep can be used in wool extraction several time as it skins grows over time. And because of this the wool production is now done in domestic levels too. Sharing and scouring are the main methods included in the production.

Fur clothing is made as the most ancient animal skin clothing ever known. These are extracted from furry animal hides. Fur clothing is commonly in winter clothes and is considered a luxurious and warm clothing option. But for many moral reasons for clothing is hated by a lot of people. There have been a lot of anti-fur campaigns from historical times. The fur trade is one of the major traded materials in North America and Russia.

Exotic skins are also used as leather products. Dangerous and poisonous animals like snakes, crocodiles and alligators are used to obtain such leather. But extraction of such materials is not allowed by many countries.

Although the animal skin products have a lot of importance in modern textile industries, this is been not supported by many animal lovers. The animals are treated cruelly to extract their skin products. Usage of many endangered species also led to their extinction in many cases. So, one should consider their fellow living beings, to have a good balanced future earth.
