Always contributing towards the environment, Jay Sawyer of Northbrook is concerned about the effect of plastic pollution on seals and other marine life. He considers the fact this pollution is hurting the sea animals and making them sick. Undeniably, it’s the plastic waste that is threatening the lives of millions of marine animals.

According to Sawyer, marine animals often eat plastic due to their small size. This plastic contains toxic chemicals, which can increase the chance of disease and affect reproduction. As per the study, from tiny corals to majestic whales, more than 700 marine species are known to be killed either by the ingestion of plastic or entanglement, resulting in millions of animal deaths a year.

Jay Sawyer from Northbrook finds out that there are as many as 51 trillion pieces of plastic in the ocean. The worst thing is that the plastic can last forever in the environment. The plastic including abandoned fishing net or a bottle cap can kill the marine animals buy entanglement, strangulation, and suffocation.

According to a 2019 study of dolphins, whales, and seals in waters of UK, 100% of dead animals on their coast had ingested plastic. Unlike humans, marine animals cannot discern the plastic from digestible materials. Sawyer believes that these animals ingest plastic by accident which releases chemicals that smell like food. This plastic can get jugged in their throats, causing them to suffocate. Apart from this, it can get accumulated in their stomachs, thus making them feel full, and eventually resulting in starvation.
