The trek to Everest Base Camp is between 12 to 14 days from past. The journey begins form Lukla and goes through the Himalayas and Sherpa villages. The trek is a blooming route with proper paths rather than a wilderness. You should be used to with high altitude hiking as you will reach elevations above 5000 meters and your body needs to adjust to this altitude. Walks last around 8 hours a day which is tiring and can make you feel awful. The altitude sickness prepares you for the higher altitudes. Exercising basic cardio can improve your general fitness during the trek. Taking regular walks before your trek prepares your muscles. Just make sure you take it.
Select a suitable trekking agency. Be friends with the guides and locals. You can expect great hospitality from the locals. You need to equip yourself with several necessities. During the trek, get yourself biodegradable toilet papers you're going to be faced with long drop toilets. Additionally, it gets quite chilly at night so proper sleeping bag, warm clothing like fleece jumpers, warm gloves and hat, long sleeved cotton t-shirts are must have along with a powerful torch. Soft pair of trainer shoes after a day's hiking would give your feet some mild relief out of your boots.
The trek is achievable for almost everyone unless you succumb to altitude sickness. No matter how much you train, getting altitude sickness is always a high possibility and your body needs some time to adjust. The routes are busy but ignoring the people traffic you may experience the hospitality of teahouse owners, the great Sherpa culture along with a wonderful food! Don’t forget to try their dumplings also known as “momo”. Enjoy the Scenery throughout the journey or else you might miss half of the offerings of the trek.
